The tasks we perform and why they are important for your home:

  • Test and record water hardness
  • Hard water causes mineral deposits to form inside pipes and boilers, reducing water flow and water heating efficiency, in addition to dry skin and hair after bathing.
  • Test GFCI and/or GFI receptacles and exercise electrical breakers
  • The manual exercising of breakers and testing of receptacles confirms that all contacts are free of debris and clean to operate effectively.
  • Test and record air humidity level 
  • Excessive humidity levels can cause condensation on windows, wet stains on walls and ceilings, unpleasant odors, and mold. Low humidity allows viruses and germs to thrive, which can lead to increased susceptibility to respiratory illnesses.
  • Test operation of radon detector and/or remediation systems
  • Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas, that can concentrate at dangerous levels. We ensure homes with radon detection systems are functioning correctly.
  • Test and clean all smoke and CO2 detectors; replace batteries as needed
  • Ensuring detectors are operating correctly protects the safety of you and those in your home.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers and record pressure
  • A lack of pressure would leave your extinguisher inoperable during a fire.
  • Exercise main water shut-off for home and individual water shut-offs to plumbing fixtures
  • Exercising shut-offs ensure they open and close properly. Faulty valves can allow water to leak through, causing problems during water heater maintenance or in the instance of a ruptured pipe or major leak.
  • Inspect railings, guard rails, and floors for loosening and squeaks
  • Unstable railings can cause accidents, while squeaky floors may be a sign your subfloor is loosening from the joists.
  • Inspect countertops, baseboards, casings, trim, caulk, and/or seals
  • Ensuring countertops are void of cracks protects them from absorbing bacteria or cracking further, while checking baseboards and trim ensures seals are airtight.
  • Inspect drywall, drywall barrier, attic security, and attic service door
  • Inspecting drywall checks for water leaks that can cause warped drywall or a buildup of mold. Inspecting the attic ensures it closes properly to maintain internal home temperatures. Inspections are also important to check for roof, soffit, insulation, or ventilation issues, and possible insect or rodent infestations.

Water quality should be tested at least once per year. HomeKeep tests twice per year to ensure optimal water quality is maintained year-round.

Humidity levels can be tested as often as desired. You can check humidity levels daily with a humidistat that can be calibrated to ensure optimal comfort in your home. Appropriate humidity levels usually fall between 30-50% depending on climate and season.

Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers should be tested annually at a minimum, but HomeKeep’s preferred interval is twice per year to confirm all safety detectors are functioning properly and batteries are replaced as needed.
